International Whale Count

Information and registration for upcoming whale count world wide

On the 7th of September 2025, organizations across the globe will join forces to highlight the vital ecosystem services of whales, dolphins, and porpoises. Together, we aim to increase global awareness by inviting the public to participate in the whale count. During this event, there will be many human eyes on the sea. This will allow us to collect more cetacean sighting data on a single day than has ever been previously achieved. At the same time, we will educate the public about these animals and the urgent need for their conservation. Everyone is welcome to take part.

Let’s share our passion for whales!

The Global Whale Count – 7 September 2025: Join us and count too!

How can your organization get involved? Each organization uses its own citizen science method and mobilizes its own community to count cetaceans on the 7th of September. There are no upper or lower limit on the number of participants. As a local organization, you will remain the main contact point for your own participants.

Please use your website to inform your participants about your counting method. You should also include your citizen science form.

Please let us know you are joining by signing up, so we can mention your organization on our website.

Do this by clicking the button above or send an email to: email hidden; JavaScript is required.

All results will be collected and combined on September 8th so we can share the total numbers and collective impact with the world!
